I'm new to this, and I've had a look on Amazon and Google Shopper, but everything looks the same. Is there a specific adaptor that is widely regarded as 'the best' out there? I'm in the UK and will be running Torque on a Nexus 6, and I'll be buying one each for the Alfa and the Skoda.

I grabbed this guy after my first one crapped out. The one you pictured is probably identical to this one to run Torque:

The one I had before was long and gray, only worked for a year then it just stopped responding altogether. Make sure you unplug it when finished or it will drain your battery.

Ah OK, I thought you could leave them plugged in. That one seems to be quite prolific, just with various brand names attached. One similar on Amazon UK gets about 4 stars so I'll take your recommendation!

I have one I still use from a few years back... its the same size as this one below but non-translucent, sold then by "AGPtek" and has a blue/orange sticker:

Knowing how China products work, some single factory probably makes them all in-house. Obviously, on Amazon I'd suggest just going with the cheapest and highest rated product.

As long as a Bluetooth connection can be made and Torque can read it...

I notice it says 'compatible with: Alfa Romeo'. OBD2 is universal, right?

yeah, I'd ignore the silly ebay compatibility section, I use it on my brz and it works, I just have to plug it in before starting else I sometimes get a cel relating to dash communications but I think that's due to the car rather than the obd device

The ones that can be left plugged in are more expensive:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00H9S… ywords=Bluetooth+obdii&dpPl=1&dpID=41%2B567lvzlL&ref=plSrch

I got that one on sale for 45. It goes to sleep after a minute of no response. On the cheaper ones unplugging them is like flipping a power switch. They run as long they are plugged in. Overnight won't drain a fresh battery, but if one car is your daily, then the weekender will be dead every Friday.

My dad has a very similar one to what you're looking at. It works. Aside from os compatibility and a sleep mode, these mostly do the same thing. A few of them (older modules) use a laggy chip set that makes torque gauges useless, but their review sections will be filled with hateful 1 star reviews.

Like everyone else has kind of mentioned - I don't think you can go wrong with the cheapest as long as the reviews check out. My dad got himself, my brother and I each one for Christmas a few years back. I can't tell you how many codes I've read for friends and family. The one I have came in between $15-20CAD. I also use Torque on Android, I even bought it because it's been so good to me.

Don't get an "EasyDiag" one, you have to use their proprietary (shit) app and not Torque.
